Private Pancake
Male Young Adult (20-29)

Private Pancake has never been one to stand out from the crowd, save for his unfortunate last name. Generally unremarkable in every way - with a sprinkling of awkward - he's a complete and utter stranger to the spotlight. Recently he's been working on becoming a better, stronger man, made evident by his decision to "be all he can be". (Preferred Age range 18-24.)

Caroline
Female Young Adult (20-29)

Caroline is a down-to-earth woman. While she's hopeful to find love, she just can't make it work with a clueless idiot. Her curvy frame is the topic of conversation. She's not typically self-conscious about it, but she's not interested in having it be the topic of conversation either.

Cosmo
Male Adult (30-45)

Cosmo is your classic oddball detective, as kooky as Ace Ventura, as inept as Inspector Clouseau, but with his own brand of crazy. His social graces are lacking, he’s a magnet for especially unattractive women, and he listens to Weird Al in his car (in fact, he is a Weird Al junkie). His prominent quirk is that he struggles with the word “foresight,” and is always confusing it with similar words such as “foreplay,” “foreskin,” and “forecast.” This makes for some awkward and often hilarious slip-ups.

Joel Harvard
Male Adult (30-45)

Joel is the ideas guy and by nature spends a lot of time with his head somewhere near the clouds. Part performer, part awkward puppy, he wants to be good with people, but has a knack for sticking his foot in his mouth. His sister Liz is his best friend, as well as his business partner, and he'd be totally lost without her. He's fun loving, mostly carefree, at least that's what he tells himself, and he'd do anything for almost anyone. Shrewd businessman he is not.

Common Questions

Self Tape Now isn't about winning a real-world role — it's about showcasing your talent. These audition sides are meant to help you stay sharp, refine your skills, and build your ActorBay profile with high-quality material. Unlike real auditions, you're not bound by NDA, so your tape can be shared publicly and used to promote yourself.

You will be given a minimum of 4 days, from the time you accept the Self Tape Now side, to submit the tape. The deadline may be extended based on the timing of other actors accepting the character. However, ActorBay tracks how long it takes you to deliver your tape. Faster, high-quality submissions reflect positively on your ABScore and profile.

An audition side is a short script excerpt — usually under 3 pages — that actors use to showcase their performance abilities. On ActorBay, these sides are written by members of the community and tailored specifically for Self Tape Now.

Yes! That's one of the biggest advantages. Unlike traditional auditions, your Self Tape Now tape is yours to share. Once the scoring is completed, you can add it to your ActorBay profile and promote it on social media to gain visibility.

Once enough tapes have been submitted for a role, submissions close. ActorBay users can then vote in 1v1 matchups between two randomly selected tapes. The results of these matchups are used to calculate each actor's win/loss ratio and contribute to their ABScore.

Scoring begins automatically once a sufficient number of tapes have been submitted for that specific audition side. Submissions are then closed, and voting opens to the ActorBay community.

Your ABScore is ActorBay's proprietary performance metric, calculated from your Self Tape Now results. It reflects your performance skill based on peer scoring and is the most important factor used to rank actors on the platform.

Failing to submit a tape after accepting a side negatively impacts your ABScore. This is to encourage reliability and follow-through — traits that matter in real industry settings.

Yes! During the scoring phase, you’ll be able to view tapes in 1v1 comparisons and vote on who you’d cast. After scoring ends, top-ranked tapes will be publicly viewable so actors can learn from each other and grow.

You can only submit one tape per audition side, but you’re encouraged to participate in as many available sides as you’d like! Each one is a new opportunity to perform, get feedback, and strengthen your profile.
