Tyler Henize as Michael
Character Description
Michael is a good guy, but caught up in the transition from one social pressure to another, experiencing a bit of a midlife crisis. As a man who was raised without a manly figure in the household, he had succumbed to a skewed perspective of how a man should be, and is on the hunt for his true masculine identity.
He is the recent recipient of a family home, after the passing of his uncle who left the property to him. It's an exciting time, but a challenging one, as he discovers there is a creature threatening his family's safety and he is the only one who can do something about it.
Scene Description
Michael and his daughter Kylie have a bit of a tense relationship at the moment. Michael and his wife have recently separated, and he is in the process of "finding himself" and seeking real masculinity. Kylie sees right through it, but doesn't have the wisdom to express it in the best way. However, she loves her dad, but is a bit fed up with his hemming and hawing, and just wants him to be her Dad, and to act like it.
In addition, there is an eerie atmosphere as a "creature in the woods" is haunting the house, creating a challenge that brings out the best - and the worst - in both of them.

ActressTyler,
The first thing I noticed was the tone of your voice, very nice.
I will say the scene loses something without a reader. If you can't find one, there are aps you can use. I was distracted by the wrinkles in the back drop also. Was that a creative choice you made for the feel of the scene? If so, I can appreciate that, however I can't see it working often.
I think you have real talent and I enjoyed your tape. Keep going.

ActorTyler-a very good reading. The talent is there. A couple of recommendations: Pull your eye line a little closer to the lens, get another reader. If you don't have one, then submitting is better than not, but I wanted to see you react with another person. I didn't sense that you were invested. i.e. if she left, you didn't lose much. Don't know what homework you did, but your eyes indicated a relationship, but not a crucial one. Why didn't you want her to live with her mother? To win, because her mother is evil, or because you would miss her? Good start. Look for the gaps.

ActressTyler,
Good job - especially considering you didn't have a reader. I liked your delivery. I think having a reader would have made it a lot more dynamic because you would have had something real to relate and react to. I think you captured the battle between what you wanted and not wanting to be too controling very well. You did what was called for in the character (displayed a weakness) and you still had character drive. Well done.

ActorTyler, you have an interesting look but your self-tape game needs work. Your backdrop needs to be wrinkle free or substantially so. Right now it's distracting. Audio - invest in an inexpensive off camera mic so you can eliminate room noise. Mostly though, you've got to have an off camera reader. In the room is best but bringing someone in over Zoom or Google Meets or Facetime is better than having no reader. A good part of acting is reacting and that's really tough when you're not actually reacting to at least a voice. You could book a role like this with better self-tape tech.

ActressReally wished you had a reader to read Kylie's lines. If you did, it's not audible. A reader would help it not just sound like a monologue and give you more layers to work with as opposed to a memorized performance. Eye Line is a bit too far to the side for a self tape. Would be nice to have the sheet behind you ironed. It was also moving from possibly a fan or vent which can be distracting. try to tighten up your framing with less head space above you - then the sheet won't be as noticeable. I see potential. all the notes are easy fixes for future self tapes

ActorGood job! Nice work without a reader. When there is a reader it gives us so much to react to. At the end you had a wince. It was nice but think about showing more of an internal pain. If you're looking for a reader, reach out. I'll read for you.
