Character Description

Lisa has had a rough go of it. The events of her early childhood swept her into the system, which put her in one terrible foster home after another, where she suffered various degrees of abuse. In her teens, she became addicted to drugs. While she has since gone clean, she still wrestles with the past.

Scene Context

Paul, an elderly man living alone in New York City, is forced into taking a road trip with his estranged son, Mike, and Mike's girlfriend, Lisa. Mike and Lisa are both former drug addicts. Paul is bitter against Mike for hurting his pride years ago. Also, he doesn't trust Lisa. Lisa spends the first half of the trip refusing to speak to Paul. In this scene, the ice is finally broken while Paul is pumping gas into their car.
